Tiantai Mountain, located at the South Zhejiang Province in China, is widely considered to be the birthplace of Chinese Buddhism and Taoism and is a place of breathtaking natural beauty as Mother Nature is traditionally treasured by Buddhism and Taoism. The Fahua Dragon Mountain tourism project was designed by HWCD.
The design concept for the lower Sky Lake show area originates from Buddhism and Taoism. Taking “Lotus Sutra” as inspirations for the first time ever, the lower Sky Lake applies multi-media techniques and modern technology to recreate the spiritual area where Buddha opened an altar at the Vulture’s Peak.
Heaven Lake combines modern life-style and shapes to create a boutique hotel featuring a ‘Fahua meditation center’. The ingenious combination of Zen cultural imagery is like a slowly blooming lotus flower.
Stepping into the Chan villa, the rammed earth, thatch rooftop and natural bamboo combine to a harmonic match of construction materials, that has successfully demonstrated a sense of ‘simple elegance’ reminiscing of the Chan spirit. Rammed earth, bamboo, metal and such materials combine organically. The large-scaled French windows bring transparency to the area while also effectively saving energy. A eco-friendly spirit permeates everywhere.
The teahouse rests on the hillside where floor-to-ceiling windows make great use of this position. By using the mountainous topography, indoor and outdoor viewing terraces blend, so that both the indoors and outdoors become the perfect places to enjoy a sunrise or sunset. The Presidential suite, built on the peak, follows the contours of the terrain and overlooks the mountains and lakes.
Nourish with Chan
The hotel evokes a profound spiritual theme. It expresses the ‘Antique, Quietness, Peacefulness and Uniform’ features of the Tiantai Mountain and has developed several study courses for people who support the theory of Chan: the “Study of Confucian”, “Work on Farm”, “Meditate at Peak” and “Meditation in Cave”.
Recreate with Spirit
Through the original planning stage to the architectural design language and finally to the construction, HWCD has consistently focused on ‘designing according to the conditions and environment’. Our team believes that a real boutique project is determined by how we submit to the environment, not by how we display the design with decorations.
